In Modules 1-4 we introduced basic sustainability concepts, the role of the finance function in sustainability initiatives, dealing with decarbonization in addressing climate change as an example of one environmental challenge, and the reporting of sustainable business information. As noted in Module 1, the E and S in ESG (environmental, social, and governance) are inextricably linked: Air pollution doesn’t just lead to climate change but also has a profound impact on human health.
This module deals with the S in ESG. It’s a very broad topic, so the aim of this course is to provide insights about the role of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) in the workplace and the role of business in strengthening society and dealing with inequality. Earlier courses set out the case for sustainability, how to address decarbonization and how to report on sustainability efforts.
